Newport Beach

Here are some pictures from Newport Beach from a few weekends ago.  We went to a comedy club to see Jimmy Fallon (OK) and his friend Wayne Federman (hilarious).  We were able to spend a little time on the beach.

I’ve been to a number of tropical beaches and some here in California and I’ve discovered that it’s nearly impossible to be stressed out while laying around on a beach.  Getting there is a different story…

How to Post an Article on this Blog

Just register or log in at www.slowpoak.com/wp-admin and then go to the “write” category.  There you can write a new post and upload pictures.  When finished, press the submit button and it will appear shortly.  It’s that easy.

This blog will work as long as a few different people try posting articles.  I changed the format so that it’s a little more user friendly, there’s only one category and one forum.  If you or anyone you know did anything interesting recently, let us all know!  Post a short blurb on the blog!

Once again, just go to www.slowpoak.com/wp-admin and register (if you are new) or log in, and you are only minutes away from posting.  Try it out!

Mountain Bike Trails - Phoenix

Steve sent me these pictures of some mountain bike trails around the Phoenix area.  Guess he got a bike recently and has been doing some exploring.  Enjoy it while you can, it will soon be hot enough to melt your tires around there!

Kern Canyon Trail

Some pics from Saturday’s ride up the Kern Canyon trail.  A few of us peeled off at the bench to go up Badger Gap.  The rest of the group went all the way to the top.  The ride was supposed to be about 38 miles.  You’re starting to talk road bike mileage now…

Here Comes Trouble!

Got a call recently from a high-school friend I haven’t seen in well over 7 years, Brandon Clark.  We went to lunch and I got to meet his daughter.  Funny, when the two of them are together, she acts more like his mom, correcting his language and such.  Brandon is friendly and funny as ever.  Randomly, I saw them both again a few weeks later at Noriega’s, which gets my vote for best family style basque.  Brandon did an impression of Jim Carrey as the Grinch (took a bite out of an onion, rubbed it on his underarm for deodorant, and tossed it over his shoulder).  El vino did flow…

And speaking of trouble, some guy crashed his van into this house in East Bakersfield.  I was there helping my co-worker move some thing right after the van careened out of control.  He escaped on foot, cops looking all over.  El vino did flow…

Corey and Beatrice

The day before the Keyesville race, we hiked around to find a decent spot to take some pictures.  On the way back down, we noticed a cool rock.  The rest is photographic history…

Easter Weekend

After Keyesville was over and the hectic week that came after, I spent all day Saturday just hanging around the house and cruising on my bike downtown.  It was a nice change of pace.  Spent Saturday evening at my parents house where my mom had the idea of making mini pizzas.  Some turned out better than others, but mine was pretty good.  The crust was baked just right.

Andrea and Leah did the Easter honors by running around the yard looking for plastic eggs.  Something about seeing the eggs hiding about the yard triggered something in me.  I almost went charging after them as well.

Here are some pictures of the Easter Egg hunt, pizza dinner, and Cal just enjoying some early season pool action.

Troy Makes the Cut

Here’s an update of the previous picture set that included Troy’s cut finger.  He sliced it open while sledding off the roof of the cabin during our last ski trip.  Who thought it was such a great idea to go sledding on the roof in the first place?

Last Saturday Ride Before Time Change

Sinan took a huge fall this Saturday, and had to be assisted back to the parking lot.  A few hours in the urgent care and he was back in the saddle on Sunday (and was at the spring barbecue on Saturday night).  After Joe Sweet and I rode with him back to the parking lot, we rode back out to get a few runs on Refrigerator.
